Bond types | Sign of classification | Explanation |
METAL BOND | M | This is a bond in which diamond or cBN abrasive grains are sintered with metal. It is used for machining wheels not to cause abrasion change and requires a high grinding ratio due to its strong holding force of abrasive grains, and excellent heat and wear resistance. it is better for cutting and polishing glass, lenses, ferrite, and ceramic, in particular. Two types are made for wet machining and dry machining. |
RESIN BOND | B | This bond consists of diamond and cBN abrasive grains solidified by super hardening synthetic resin. As for resin type, there are phenol resin and heat-resistant resin. Good points are that resin bond wheels display high grinding performance, and are less prone to loading due to an excellent self-sharpening capability in spite of a relatively weak holding force of abrasive grains. It is efficient not only for wet machining but also for dry machining. Having wide-ranging coverage, it is suitable for cylindrical grinding, centerless grinding, and double-headed grinding. It shows especially high grinding performance when grinding ceramic. |
VITRIFIED BOND | V | Vitrified bond is set diamond or cBN abrasive grain by magnetic or glassy substance. Vitrified bond wheels have better grinding abilities than those of matal bond wheels and longer lives than those of resin bond wheels. these bond wheels are the most suitable for polishing hard precious stones because of high grain retention and excelloent heat resistance. |
ELECTROPLATED GRINDSTONE | P | Diamond and cBN abrasive grains are fixed to metal core by electroplating. this electroplating grindstone shows high grindability as it has storong binding force, alarge amount of projection, and highdensity of surface of diamond or cBN powder. It is appropriate to use it for processing tending to cause clogging, and also for grinding operations which allows few wear changes, or are given priority to graindability. |
